Field Visit to the Juvenile Detention Center in Samawah: A Step Toward Justice and Humanity

On the morning of July 28, 2025, the team from the Women’s Rights Center in Samawah, in cooperation with the Justice  Network for Prisoners  and with support from the Norwegian People’s Aid, conducted a field visit to the juvenile detention center in Al-Muthanna Governorate. The aim was to assess the conditions of detained minors and ensure the facility’s compliance with international child rights standards.

The visit included a meeting with the prison director, Mr. Muayad Naeem Mansour, to discuss institutional procedures, as well as direct conversations with several detained juveniles to hear their needs and concerns. The team evaluated detention conditions, including healthcare, educational services, and psychological support.

This visit is part of ongoing efforts to monitor prison conditions and document potential violations. The network seeks to provide practical recommendations to improve detention realities and safeguard minors’ rights while raising community awareness about the rights of this vulnerable group.

This step is not merely a routine inspection but part of a long journey toward more humane justice, where hope remains for positive change to touch the lives of every child behind bars.

زيارة ميدانية إلى سجن الأحداث في السماوة: خطوة نحو العدالة والإنسانية

في صباح يوم 28 تموز 2025، انطلق فريق مركز حقوق المرأة في السماوة، بالتعاون مع شبكة العدالة للسجناء وبدعم من منظمة مساعدات الشعب النرويجي في زيارة ميدانية إلى سجن الأحداث في محافظة المثنى، بهدف الوقوف على واقع الأحداث المحتجزين والتأكد من التزام إدارة السجن بالمعايير الدولية لحقوق الطفل.

شملت الزيارة لقاءً مع مدير السجن، ، حيث تم نقاش الإجراءات المتبعة داخل المؤسسة، كما جرى التحدث مباشرة مع عدد من الأحداث الموقوفين للاستماع إلى احتياجاتهم ومطالبهم، وتم تقييم ظروف الاحتجاز من حيث الخدمات الصحية والتعليمية والرعاية النفسية.

تأتي هذه الزيارة ضمن جهود مستمرة لرصد أوضاع السجون وتوثيق الانتهاكات المحتملة، حيث تسعى الشبكة إلى تقديم توصيات عملية لتحسين واقع الاحتجاز وضمان حقوق الأحداث، مع العمل على تعزيز الوعي المجتمعي بحقوق هذه الفئة المستضعفة.

هذه الخطوة ليست مجرد زيارة روتينية، بل هي جزء من مسار طويل نحو عدالة أكثر إنسانية، حيث لا يزال الأمل قائماً بتغيير إيجابي يلامس حياة كل طفل خلف القضبان.
