An Inside Look at the Adult Reformatory in Kurdistan

On September 10, 2025, the Kurdistan Organization Human Rights Watch, in coordination with the Justice Network for Prisoners , conducted a field visit to the Directorate of the Adult Reformatory in Kurdistan. The visit was funded by the Norwegian People’s Aid Organization as part of a project to improve human rights conditions in Iraqi prisons.

The visit focused on reviewing the conditions of the Adult Reformatory in Kurdistan and identifying its basic needs. The delegation examined the center’s infrastructure, the health services provided, and the prevailing living conditions. The visit also addressed the key challenges facing the administration of the Adult Reformatory in performing its duties.

This visit represented a step towards closely understanding the reality of the Adult Reformatory and identifying potential areas for improvement to ensure humane treatment that aligns with basic standards.
