A visit to Al-Nasiriyah Reformative Prison

Under the patronage of the Justice Network for Prisoners and with funding from Norwegian People’s Aid, the “Civil Society Impact to Reduce Inequality” program, in partnership with the Iraqi Organization “Iraquna,” carried out a field visit to the Nasiriyah Reformation Prison in Dhi Qar Governorate from October 25, 2025, for a period of three days. The visit targeted civil society organizations, religious figures, local authorities, and media personnel to assess the needs of prisoners and support reform efforts. Discussions focused on supporting prisoners and reintegrating them into society, with agreement on the importance of enhancing cooperation between the government and civil society. This resulted in the development of future action plans. Among the prominent challenges was the difficulty in obtaining official approvals, with participants emphasizing the necessity of continuing support for prisoners even after completing their sentences.

برعاية شبكة العدالة للسجناء وتمويل من منظمة مساعدات الشعب النرويجي، نفذ برنامج “تأثير المجتمع المدني للحد من اللامساواة” بالشراكة مع منظمة عراقنا زيارة ميدانية لسجن الناصرية الإصلاحي في محافظة ذي قار خلال الفترة من 25 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر 2025 ولمدة ثلاثة أيام. استهدفت الزيارة منظمات المجتمع المدني ورجال الدين والسلطات المحلية والإعلاميين لتقييم احتياجات السجناء ودعم جهود الإصلاح. تركزت النقاشات حول دعم السجناء وإعادة دمجهم في المجتمع، متفقين على أهمية تعزيز التعاون بين الحكومة والمجتمع المدني، ونتج عنها وضع خطط عمل مستقبلية. من أبرز التحديات صعوبة الحصول على الموافقات الرسمية، مع تأكيد المشاركين على ضرورة متابعة دعم السجناء حتى بعد انتهاء محكومياتهم.
