Under the patronage of the Justice Network for Prisoners and funded by the Norwegian People’s Aid, the Nas for Development Organization in Sulaymaniyah held a seminar on the social rights of prisoners on October 21, 2025.
The seminar addressed two main themes. The first focused on studying the social and economic problems prisoners face from early stages of their lives until their arrest, and working to resolve them through measures such as individual interviews in a calm environment, with the aim of rehabilitating them.
The second theme emphasized the relationship between prisoners and society in accordance with international and local laws. It discussed methods of communication with family and society through visits, exchanging letters, temporary release, and cultural activities as essential measures to maintain their psychological well-being and facilitate their reintegration. The seminar also touched upon the role of social workers in correctional institutions and concluded with an intensive discussion among students on ways to ensure these rights.
