Field Visit to Samawah Central Prison

The Women’s Center for Human Rights in Samawah, in cooperation with  Justice Network for the Prisoners’ and with financial support from Norwegian People’s Aid, conducted a field visit to Samawah Central Prison on 13 September 2026, as part of preparing the periodic report on prisons in Iraq. The prison is designated for men and sentenced persons and is affiliated with the Ministry of Justice. It provides basic services, while there is a need to improve infrastructure and strengthen health, educational, and psychological services and post-release programs. The visit concluded with recommendations on developing the prison’s conditions.

زيارة ميدانية لسجن السماوة المركزي                                                                                                                                                                   نفذ مركز المرأة لحقوق الإنسان في السماوة، بالتعاون مع شبكة العدالة للسجناء وبدعم مالي من منظمة مساعدات الشعب النرويجي، زيارة ميدانية إلى سجن السماوة المركزي بتاريخ 13 أيلول 2026، ضمن إعداد التقرير الدوري عن السجون في العراق. السجن مخصص للرجال والمحكومين ويتبع وزارة العدل، وتتوفر فيه خدمات أساسية، مع وجود حاجة إلى تحسين البنية التحتية وتعزيز الخدمات الصحية والتعليمية والنفسية وبرامج ما بعد الإفراج. وخلصت الزيارة إلى توصيات حول بتطوير أوضاع السجن،
