On October 30, 2025, the Human Rights Organization in Kurdistan – Duhok held an awareness seminar titled “Human Rights Awareness in Iraq” in the hall of Kawa Preparatory School in Duhok Governorate. This seminar was part of the “Project to Improve the Human Rights Conditions of Prisoners and Detainees in Iraq,” implemented by the organization, sponsored by the Justice Network for Prisoners, and funded by the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).
The seminar targeted twelfth-grade students, with a total of 35 participants, including 32 students and a teacher from Kawa Preparatory School, as well as staff from the implementing organization.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the principles of human rights, with a focus on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the rights and duties of students, and how to avoid the misuse of social media. An explanation was also provided on the Law on Preventing the Misuse of Communication Devices No. (15) of 2008, in addition to addressing the rights of convicts and detainees.
The event began with an overview of the project, followed by a discussion of the main topics related to human rights, and concluded with an open discussion session to answer participants’ questions.
