Al-Diwaniyah: A Dialogue Session on Prison Conditions
Under the auspices of the Justice Network for Prisoners and funded by the Norwegian People’s Aid organization, a dialogue session titled “Conditions of Juveniles in Detention Centers” was held in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
The event was organized by the Al-Mada Organization for Women and Children, in cooperation with the Directorate of Preparation and Training in the governorate, with the participation of twenty-one individuals from various professional sectors.
During the session, attendees discussed the conditions faced by juveniles in Iraqi detention centers, noting the absence of specialized facilities for this age group. Personal experiences of former prisoners were also shared during the meeting.
Participants concluded by recommending the establishment of independent reform centers dedicated to juveniles, the adoption of social and rehabilitative alternatives to imprisonment, and the employment of social researchers to monitor juveniles during and after their detention period.
