Field Visit to Central Taji Prison in Baghdad

As part of the project to promote human rights in Iraqi prisons, the Al-Munqith Organization for Human Rights, in partnership with the Justice Network for Prisoners and with funding from the Norwegian People’s Aid, conducted an evaluation visit to the Central Taji Prison in Baghdad on August 6, 2025. The visit focused on assessing the prison administration’s compliance with international standards and examining the challenges faced by inmates, such as overcrowding, shortages of medical and psychological staff, and difficulties in providing educational services.

During the visit, discussions were held with the prison administration on ways to improve conditions. The dialogue addressed the need to tackle overcrowding, enhance specialized personnel, and curb drug smuggling operations. The complaint mechanisms in place and the administration’s responsiveness to observations were also reviewed and  an agreement was reached to conduct a follow-up evaluation visit by the end of the year to measure progress in improving conditions for inmates

 زيارة ميدانية لسجن التاجي المركزي في بغداد

في إطار مشروع تعزيز حقوق الإنسان في السجون العراقية، نفذت منظمة المنقذ لحقوق الإنسان بالشراكة مع شبكة العدالة للسجناء وبتمويل من منظمة مساعدات الشعب النرويجي زيارة تقييمية لسجن التاجي المركزي ببغداد يوم 6 أغسطس 2025. ركزت الزيارة على تقييم مدى التزام الإدارة السجنية بالمعايير الدولية ودراسة التحديات التي تواجه النزلاء مثل الاكتظاظ ونقص الكوادر الطبية والنفسية وصعوبات توفير الخدمات التعليمية. تم خلال الزيارة مناقشة سبل تحسين الأوضاع مع إدارة السجن، حيث تناول الحوار ضرورة معالجة مشكلة الاكتظاظ وتعزيز الكوادر المتخصصة وضبط عمليات تهريب المخدرات. كما تم استعراض آليات الشكاوى المتبعة ومدى استجابة الإدارة للملاحظات.  تم الاتفاق على متابعة التقييم بزيارة أخرى نهاية العام لقياس مدى التقدم المحرز في تحسين أوضاع النزلاء
