Al-Mayamin Foundation Visits Basra Juvenile Police Center to Improve Detention Conditions Basra

In 1 June 2025 As part of the “Improving Human Rights in Detention Centers” project implemented by the Justice  Network for Prisoners with support from the Norwegian People’s Aid, Al-Mayamin Humanitarian Foundation – the Network’s representative in Basra Governorate – conducted a field visit to the Juvenile Police Center in Al-Kout Al-Sahih area.

The visit aimed to document and assess detention conditions for juveniles at the center and identify potential human rights violations, guided by the “Nelson Mandela Rules” (the UN standards for prisoner treatment). Meetings were held with center officials to discuss current services and operational challenges.

This visit is part of Al-Mayamin’s regular monitoring activities in partnership with the Justice  Network for Prisoners , focusing on protecting the rights of vulnerable detainees – particularly juveniles, who require specialized care and procedures compliant with international humanitarian standards.

ضمن أنشطة مشروع “تحسين حقوق الإنسان في مراكز الاحتجاز”، الذي تنفذه شبكة العدالة للسجناء بدعم من منظمة مساعدات الشعب النرويجي، أجرت مؤسسة الميامين الإنسانية – الممثل للشبكة في محافظة البصرة – زيارة ميدانية إلى مركز شرطة الأحداث في منطقة كوت الصحيح.
هدفت الزيارة، إلى توثيق وتقييم أوضاع احتجاز الأحداث داخل المركز، وتحديد الانتهاكات المحتملة لحقوق الإنسان استناداً إلى “قواعد نيلسون مانديلا”، التي تشكّل المعايير الدولية لمعاملة السجناء. كما شملت الزيارة عقد اجتماعات مع المسؤولين داخل المركز لمناقشة واقع الخدمات المقدمة والتحديات القائمة.
تأتي هذه الزيارة كجزء من سلسلة زيارات ميدانية دورية تنفذها مؤسسة الميامين في إطار الشراكة مع شبكة العدالة للسجناء، بهدف تعزيز حماية حقوق الفئات الأكثر ضعفاً داخل مراكز الاحتجاز، وعلى رأسهم الأحداث، الذين يحتاجون إلى رعاية خاصة وإجراءات تتوافق مع المعايير الإنسانية الدولية.
