As part of the Justice Network for Prisoners project, and within its initiative to promote the right to fair trials, the People for Development Organization, with support from the Norwegian People\u2019s Aid, conducted an inspection visit to the Women’s and Youth Reformatory Center in Sulaymaniyah on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.<\/p>\n

During this visit, the organization met with the, Director of the Women’s and Children’s Reformatory in Sulaymaniyah, and the Head of the Research Department at the Directorate. The meetings aimed to assess the living conditions of the prisoners and detainees in the reformatory.<\/p>\n

The visit included a tour of all sections of the reformatory, including the women\u2019s, children\u2019s, and adolescents\u2019 sections. The team listened to the prisoners, learning about their problems and demands firsthand. Additionally, they explored ways to address the challenges faced by the inmates to improve their conditions and ensure their rights are respected in accordance with international human rights standards.<\/p>\n

Purpose of the Visit<\/strong>
\nThe focus of the visit was to review the living conditions within the reformatory and assess whether they align with international standards for prisoner rights, including the right to humane treatment and fair trials. This visit is part of the ongoing efforts by the People for Development Organization to enhance the judicial system and protect the rights of detainees in Iraq.<\/p>\n
