Salamtek Organization for the Defense of Human Rights Organizes an Awareness Session on Prisoners’ Rights in Duhok<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the project “Improving Human Rights Conditions for Prisoners and Detainees in Iraq,” Salamtek Organization for the Defense of Human Rights, in collaboration with the Legal Clinic Center at the University of Duhok\/College of Law and Politics, and in partnership with the Justice Network for Prisoners’ with financial support from NPA, organized a seminar for the students of the College of Law and Politics at the University of Duhok and Cihan University on Thursday, 25\/07\/2024, at the Legal Clinic Center of the College of Law and Politics\/University of Duhok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session, presented by Dr. Ari Aref Abdulaziz, addressed the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (the Nelson Mandela Rules) and the international and national mechanisms for protecting the rights of prisoners and detainees. Dr. Ari Aref reviewed these rules within the context of international and national mechanisms, highlighting the importance of their implementation and alignment with local legislation, particularly in the prisons and reformatories located in Duhok Governorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session aimed to raise awareness among law students about human rights standards for prisoners and detainees and the importance of applying them to ensure respect for human dignity and basic rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
